Countdown.....

TEN....
I am very proud to announce that I won the Tonner Pinterest Contest which occured between Nov15-Dec 15. The challenge was to create a look and lifestyle for Tonner's Changing Mood Penelope doll as spelled out in pins. As first prize winner, I am the proud new owner of this doll as well as a complete outfit, "Dancing the Night Away." If you like, you can see the board I created by clicking here. Inasmuch as I have never won anything prior, I decided I should properly document the unboxing of such a gorgeous prize. Tyra and friends were more than willing to lend a hand as they count down to a new year.

Crystal Palace

In a universe far away, exists a crystal palace. For 150 years, it has been a very popular place, attracting royalty and heads of state with its fine glassworks. Unbeknownst to many, it is also home to princesses who dress in crystals as fine as diamonds that light up the skies.

Everything is made of crystal including their elaborate crowns.

Sometimes those crowns have a way of distorting their beauty.

Or is it the other way around? Three eyes, two noses, all is not what it appears to be. Does that make it more or less beautiful?

One night the head princess decided to throw a party.

She imagined it would be the grandest event in the universe. Her table, itself made of the finest cut glass, stretched from one end of infinity to the next.

So much to do. So much to plan!

She ran here and there to locate the finest crystal for the event.

She would have others help her, perhaps.

Gunilla, wearing her Baccarat crystal skirt, was thrilled to get the invitation. She brought with her, a majestic urn of crystal.

She imagined how she would dance! But would she break her skirt?

She remembered how Stella left the last party in pieces!

Meanwhile Isabela could not decide what to wear. She knew in any case it must sparkle and shine!

She discovered by smashing her precious crystal, it would take on the appearance of rare gems.

She also discovered that fire would bring about an unexpected warmth to her otherwise icy look.

Even Lana was tempted to give in to this look. The diamonds now resembled gold! Or copper!?! Appearances are deceiving!

But then she thought, "We need not throw stones to be beautiful. After all, that which glitters is NOT necessarily gold nor diamonds." And with that she, and the other princesses went back to their origins. Pure unadulturated crystal crowns that sparkled with natural, luminous beauty!

Stormy Weather

There's a storm brewing. I can feel it!
So blustery, it began with the clouds and a giant whiff of wind.
But soon those clouds grew darker, bigger, menacing, so powerful. What a glorious beast looming in the darkness!
 The winds grew fierce.
Darker and stronger with each huff.
I thought I might be blown away, there was so much turbulence!
The sky turned to black. It was all quite frightening, yet exciting!
And then the lightning came, electrifying the sky in such a creative manner. Such beautiful violence!!!!!

The lightening struck; the winds stirred up. It was quite an impressive experience! I felt I had an out of body experience that night.
I finally peeled my eyes away from the sky and thought to take shelter once the rain began to pour.
And finally....finally...finally....the skies began to clear. The air was so fresh. And all of the darkness seemed to melt away with the rain drops.
Things seemed so much brighter, now. The clouds were still there but when I took another look, it was if there were giant orchards invading the heavens. GORGEOUS!!!  In one's life the rain must come....to make way for other good things to come!

X-ray Vision

Let's imagine for a second, that fashion had guts and a body of work could be examined up close and personal to determine the structure within.

And so she slipped behind the curtain and in front of the lens of the camera. But to everyone's dismay, the image began to break apart in a series of vertical, positive/negative stripes. To be quite honest, she was hardly amazed.
Thinking her arms were perhaps in the way, she lifted them so the technician could get a better shot. The image began appearing and though we could see something was there....it was hard to determine the identity of those masses. Were we witnessing some sort of internal growth? Fashion has guts? No, she thought. Fashion has not advanced in years. It resists new technology. It HATES the now and the future. It remains comfortably in the past. Snap another shot, technician dearest.
No bones about it, something was clearly there. A skeleton of a structure. But why is everything new always topsy-turvy, chaotic without a cause?
My goodness, now I'm seeing double and triple. But I still don't know what's under it all. 1950's, 60's, 70's or 90's...Is style simply a repeat of itself, mass produced over and over without thought or soul? Is the point only to look good externally without any semblance of depth?

Or am I simply over reacting, over thinking the concept? Slave to fashion, I am doomed to relive its history, over and over and over again.
